Sounding the call for more affordable new housing in East Boston. That was was the goal of march on Saturday, organized by City Life Vida Urbana--before a key decision about the redevelopment of Suffolk Downs, with as many as ten thousand units of housing.
Mayor Walsh reports more than one-quarter of the housing construction permits last year were for affordable units. Overall, eight hundred thirty units were below market-rate and deed-restricted.
State officials are facing new questions about their plans to re-align the Mass Turnpike in Allston. A plan with support from neighborhood residents would create more space for parkland and new development.
